People are sharing their current picture with their 10-year-old image. If you happened to open any of your social media handle recently, then you would have noticed a blast of posts dedicated to the social media craze. Here is everything you need to know about the #10YearChallenge.

What is the #10YearChallenge?
The latest internet mania movement involves posting a picture of yourself that was taken 10 years ago and placing it next to one that is taken in 2019. The challenge was initially called #HowHardDidAgingHitYou but later it got dubbed as the #GlowUp challenge – referring to how well people have aged.

Who started the #10YearChallenge?
Like any other social media challenges, it is little unsure on who or what started the movement, but it has probably to do with Facebook’s feature that brings back old memories on your wall.

So the main thing - Who is benefited from the challenge?
Initially, the #10YearChallenge went viral Facebook and then on Instagram too. According to the sources, these images are helping data companies to improve their data to train their artificial intelligence system to profile people. Editorial Director of the Johns Hopkins University Press, Greg Britton wrote, "Has anyone considered that Facebook's "How Hard Did Aging Hit You" Challenge is just a way to refine facial recognition technology? What better way to get people to offer up a ton of comparative visual data."
Author of Tech Humanist, Kate O'Neill also twitted on this matter, "Me 10 years ago: probably would have played along with the profile picture ageing meme going around on Facebook and Instagram...Me now: ponders how all this data could be mined to train facial recognition algorithms on age progression and age recognition."

So, now you are aware of the actual reason behind this trend. It's better to research before to research a little before following any trend.
